GQ Magazine Steps In with a Utility Driven NFT Art Project

GQ Magazine Steps In with a Utility Driven NFT Art Project

GQ, the New York-based men’s magazine, is launching an NFT collection that will offer its fans various perks. Holders of these NFTs will have access to magazine subscriptions, merchandise, and live events. To bring the collection to life, GQ Magazine tapped into the expertise of four renowned artists: REO, Chuck Anderson, Sewath Attafuah, and Kelsey Niziolek.

The company challenged the quartet to use its motto, “Change Is Good,” as a guide in generating the digital art that would later form the collection. The end result was that each artist came up with over 100 “unique traits that could be combined in infinite ways.” These traits were then algorithmically combined to form the the basis of the 1,662 “GQ3 Issue 001: Change Is Good” NFTs.

Minting is set to commence on March 8 in phases, with an allowlist that is composed of its Discord members getting first dibs. Each piece will go for 0.1957 ETH, or $328 as of press time. The pricing is meant to honor the year GQ magazine was launched some 66 years ago.

A statement from the project’s official website reads:

“When you mint artwork from this inaugural collection, you’re also getting a pass to unlock the GQ universe. Your token will let you claim a bunch of benefits from GQ: a magazine subscription, the GQ Box, exclusive GQ3 merch, a ticket to the first-ever GQ3 party in NYC, and more. It will also usher you into the GQ3 community as a founder and holder with ongoing access to live events, a special section of the GQ Discord, and first-in-line status for future drops.”

GQ Magazine Joins Other Leading Publications in Adopting Web3

By launching its own NFT collection, GQ Magazine follows in the footsteps of other legacy publications that have embraced Web3. In the recent past, the likes of TIME Magazine and CNN have launched collections of their own.
