Sotheby’s Kicks Off ‘Natively Digital: Oddly Satisfying’ NFT Auction

Sotheby's Kicks Off 'Natively Digital: Oddly Satisfying' NFT Auction

Storied auction house, Sotheby’s, has launched its ‘Natively Digital: Oddly Satisfying’ NFT auction, running from March 17 – 24. According to the official announcement, the sale will take place simultaneously in physical spaces during the Paris Blockchain Week, as well as in the Metaverse.

Dubbed “Natively Digital: Oddly Satisfying,” the auction will feature digital artwork inspired by “oddly satisfying” web videos that are popular on Reddit. These include hypnotic animations and surreal video loops. Additionally, it will feature work from popular NFT artists such as Mike “Beeple” Winkelmann, who made history by selling his digital artwork for $69.3 million two years ago. Other artists that will be featured include, ARC, Petio, Lucas Zanotto, Clement Morin, Ryan Talbot, and more.

Sotheby’s Auction Will Feature 66 Digital Art Pieces

The event will run from March 17 to 24, where a total of 66 NFT pieces will be auctioned. This marks the first such auction to be held by Sotheby’s in Paris while simultaneously running in the Metaverse. The auction house’ virtual world was created in RLTY World, a project that serves as a private Metaverse platform for Web3 communities and brands to develop their own digital universes.

After the “Oddly Satisfying” auction is complete, Sotheby’s will usher in the next auction, dubbed “Natively Digital: Glitch-ism.” This will feature various NFT artworks inspired by the glitch art movement. Sotheby’s describes the artwork as an “intentional creation of errors and glitches in digital media, such as images, videos, and sound art, which highlight the complex and often fraught relationship between humanity and technology.”

The glitch art sale will take place from March 24 to 31 in New York and will feature “Loading New Conflict… Redux 6,” an Ethereum NFT piece created back in 2018.
