CryptoArt Sundays: Interview with Hayden Clay

CryptoArt Sundays: Interview with Hayden Clay

Welcome to CryptoArt Sundays fellow art lovers! This week I’m thrilled to introduce you to the dreamy work of NFT artist Hayden Clay.

Hayden is a talented visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York, and his unique creations are instantly recognizable by his signature style of surreal, dreamlike scenes bathed in light and water. Formerly a photographer, he used to be focused on creating sensory, lush images. However, some of his ideas proved too surreal to create in-camera, so he transitioned to 3D artwork in order to construct his visions with more control.

Let’s find out more about this fascinating artist in this week’s interview, and indulge in his incredible artworks!

How did you find out about the NFT space, and what attracted you to create your own NFTs?

I found out about the NFT space by other artists talking about it online. I had seen artists like fvckrender and Victor Mosquera mention it. It was the sale of Reisinger Andres’s ‘Pink Chair’ that finally got me to dive in.

How often do you create?

I’ve been making art for more than 8 years. Up until now, making a living from my art seemed like a distant dream. I was attracted to NFTs because it seemed like a great way to finally achieve that dream. All I want to do is make art, and make a living doing so.

What is your creative process?

I actually recently became a full-time artist, so I create about 8 hours a day. However, the creative process is always moving. I’m constantly daydreaming about the next piece and gathering references and inspirations.

My creative process is daydreaming, mainly. I have a pretty clear image of an artwork in my head before I begin. When actually creating this artwork, I often will sketch it out and make revisions depending on what is the most visually interesting.

Are there any CryptoArtists you would love to collaborate with?

I think about collaborations a lot, I’m overwhelmed with the amount of artists I’d like to work with. I’d like to create a surreal still life with helloharuko, I’d like to create water clothing on someone else’s 3D people, like shavonnewong_ or yvgal. Too many to name. I’ll stop now before I write a novel.

What do you think the future of CryptoArt will look like?

I think the future of Crypto Art will just be called art. The use of crypto around art will be so normalized, it won’t really be highlighted. We don’t call art in Museums ‘Museum Art’, do we?

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on a lot of commissions, but will soon pivot back to personal work. I will be adding to my series ‘Swimwear’ which explores a series of digital fashion made from water. I have a lot of exciting standalone pieces I want to create as well.

Most of my work is on Foundation, and on SuperRare where my genesis piece will be minted there soon.
