Over time, NFTs are fast becoming a core part of popular culture. This has seen them be embraced especially by art galleries and museums for both commercial and artistic purposes.
The latest institution to embrace NFTs in this way is the Museum of the City of New York. According to reports, the museum has filed a number of patents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office that allude to incoming web3-related projects.
NFTs Coming to the Museum
As per the official filing, the museum is looking into ‘downloadable virtual goods’. Some of the goods mentioned include crypto-collectables, non-fungible tokens and computer software in the nature of both.
While the museum itself has not put out any official statement, this filing does show what direction it is likely heading. This is also especially timely given how popular NFTs have become in museums.
In fact, museums solely dedicated to NFTs have opened in both Seattle and New York City, where the museum is located. Given that both cities are commercial centres, the placement of NFT-centered institutions there makes sense.
Now, the Museum of the City of New York, which has been a staple of New York for almost 100 years, will be offering NFTs. Hopefully, we will get some announcements soon about what the NFTs will entail and how they can be gotten.
